Velouchi road crossing

The Velouchi road crossing links the Karpenisi and ski-centre side with Agia Triada on the northern side of Mount Tymfristos. The mapped asphalt road includes a tunnel near the ski area and continues towards the villages of Evrytania.

Karpenisi–Velouchi–Agia Triada

From Karpenisi, the road climbs towards the ski area. Near the facilities, the Agia Triada road continues through a tunnel to the northern side. This guide’s reference point lies on the road south of the tunnel; it is not the summit of Velouchi.

Through crossing and ski access

Being able to reach the ski centre from Karpenisi does not confirm that the onward road to Agia Triada is open. Check the northern approach and tunnel specifically, especially in snowy conditions. Without a recent update, the crossing remains unconfirmed.

The pass and its story

Velouchi is the familiar name of the Tymfristos mountain area above Karpenisi. The mountain is listed in the Natura 2000 network as Oros Tymfristos (Velouchi). The present route combines ski-area access with a connection towards northern Evrytania’s settlements; this guide has not established a construction date for the road or tunnel.

When to plan a crossing

No fixed annual opening calendar has been verified. Snow, ice, snow clearance and works can affect the two sides differently. Before setting out, check the whole journey to your destination, not only access as far as the ski area.

Look for a notice explicitly covering the Velouchi–Agia Triada road. Lift operation does not establish that the through crossing is possible.

Check restrictions for your own vehicle, both approaches and the return journey. A nearby tunnel may have different opening rules from the road over the pass.

Distances are approximate straight-line distances. They are not driving distances, and nearby places may lie across an inaccessible ridge or a border.

The blend uses the values available for each day and variable. Coverage falls as individual models reach their forecast limits. The two IFS products are not independent models. Model spread shows disagreement, not the probability of a weather event.

Wind: maximum daily speed at 10 m and prevailing direction of origin. Direction uses a speed-weighted circular calculation; missing or strongly opposing directions display a dash. 🥶: low below 0°C. 🥵: high above 30°C. 💨 in Conditions: wind at least 40 km/h or gusts at least 60 km/h.

Direct GFS, AIGFS, IFS, AIFS and GEM/GDPS data from the Xionia cache when a complete recent cycle is available. Supported grids are GFS 0.25° / 0.5°, AIGFS 0.25°, IFS 0.25°, AIFS 0.25° and GEM 0.15°.

How models combine

Each available family contributes once per variable. Direct forecasts select the freshest available GFS grid and use equal family weights as the baseline. Local weights apply only where enabled after validation. The comparison shows actual percentages and model cycles.

Coverage and missing values

A dash means unavailable data. Wind and gust may use different models. AIGFS temperature is excluded when it cannot be compared on the same elevation basis. Six-hour precipitation is water equivalent, not snow depth.

Time window

A “Today” label with hours in parentheses covers only the stated time window; subsequent days require full local coverage. Days 8–14 are a less certain outlook. Agreement between models is not a probability from a true ensemble.
