Weather model forecast maps: GFS 0.25° and 0.50°, ECMWF IFS, ECMWF AIFS, AIGFS, GEM, ICON-EU, ICON Global, UKMO Global, ARPEGE Europe, JMA GSM

Meteorological weather forecast maps — Worldwide. Compare models at the same forecast time for temperature, precipitation, wind and pressure, where data are available. Regional models cover only their supported geographical area.

Choose a region and compare the available models at the same valid time, where data are available.

Forecast maps for Greece, Europe and the world

Follow the weather on the Greece maps, Europe maps or world view. Select a region, model and variable, then move to the forecast time you need.

Compare forecasts at the same time

Compare the same valid date and time. Models may use different forecast runs; the run and selected valid time appear above the map.

The update indicator shows collection progress. Available variables and forecast horizons vary by model. Explore the model sources and comparisons and the coverage and verification guide.

Read the selected variable

  • Temperature: air near the surface or at 850 hPa, depending on your selection.
  • Precipitation: check the accumulation period. Values in mm are water equivalent, not snow depth.
  • Wind: speed and direction, with gusts where available.
  • Pressure, cloud cover and freezing level: shown where supported by the selected product.
How to read the maps

Forecasts describe model grid values, not station measurements. Temperature at 2 metres is air temperature and is not adjusted to a city's elevation. The 850 hPa level can be below ground in high mountains.

Precipitation is the water equivalent of all precipitation types. Categorical snow, rain, freezing-rain and ice-pellet fields are not probabilities or snow depths. Missing values remain unshaded; zero remains a valid value. Colour thresholds are fixed for each field and model comparison. Unit changes affect labels and readouts, not the underlying forecast or thresholds.

Contours interpolate within the available grid and do not cross missing cells. City values use the nearest displayed grid point. Large regions may use a coarser sample of the native grid; its spacing appears below the map. These maps do not add resolution to the model.

The world map covers 75°S to 80°N. The United States view covers the contiguous states; Alaska and Hawaii have separate views. Soil-temperature and 500 hPa fields are not included in the current collection.

Weather models and their providers

GFS

USA · NOAA / NCEP

Global Forecast System: a numerical model that simulates atmospheric physics.

AIGFS

USA · NOAA / NCEP

Artificial Intelligence Global Forecast System: a machine-learning model initialized from NOAA atmospheric analyses.

ECMWF IFS

Europe · ECMWF

Integrated Forecasting System: the intergovernmental European centre’s numerical model. IFS 9 km and IFS 0.25° are products of the same model family on different data grids.

ECMWF AIFS

Europe · ECMWF

Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System: this page uses AIFS Single, which produces one forecast scenario.

GEM

Canada · ECCC

Global Environmental Multiscale: the atmospheric model within Canada’s GDPS. The current system combines numerical prediction with large-scale guidance from the GEML AI model.

ICON-EU

Germany · DWD

Regional numerical weather model for Europe, with a finer grid than the global ICON version.

ICON Global

Germany · DWD

Global numerical weather model from the German Weather Service. Resolution varies by data product.

UKMO Global

United Kingdom · Met Office

Global numerical forecast from the Met Office. MOGREPS-G is the provider’s separate ensemble system.

ARPEGE Europe

France · Météo-France

European output from Météo-France’s ARPEGE numerical model. Coverage and variables depend on the available product.

JMA GSM

Japan · JMA

Global Spectral Model: the Japan Meteorological Agency’s global numerical weather model.

AIGEFS

United States · NOAA / NCEP

Artificial intelligence ensemble with 31 members. It complements the single AIGFS forecast with alternative scenarios and their spread.

Available map variables depend on the model and data product. ARPEGE direct maps cover surface fields; ICON EPS and MOGREPS ensemble charts do not provide 850 hPa images here.
