Choose one valley or neighbouring ski areas as a starting point, then compare road access and forecasts. The Alps cover several countries; a ski connection across a border does not imply a nearby road crossing.
For Zermatt, drivers leave the car in Täsch and continue by shuttle train or an authorised transfer. Plan the drive to the transfer point separately from the final journey to the car-free village. For Cervinia, select the Italian road approach; a lift connection with Zermatt is not a car route.
A valley-based ski journey with separate stays around Chamonix, the Aravis and Tarentaise. Visit the Bourg-Saint-Maurice resorts from their own access roads; piste and lift connections do not connect the car parks. End in Val d’Isère and return down the valley rather than crossing the seasonal Col de l’Iseran.
Build several nights into each base rather than changing hotel after every ski day. The west-to-east itinerary links separate Austrian ski regions through valley roads. Sölden is a ski stop, not a request to cross the Timmelsjoch winter closure; review the road geometry before accepting any suggested mountain shortcut.
A western-Alps trip with stays in Valais, Chamonix and the Aosta Valley. Check the Mont Blanc Tunnel schedule before the France–Italy leg; cable cars across the massif are not a driving connection. Tunnel tolls and cross-border rental permission are separate from fuel costs. This is a XIONIA itinerary, not an official named tour.
Ski bases in Bavaria, Tirol, the Dolomites and Slovenia. Innsbruck and Bolzano keep the long transfer on the Brenner corridor; Villach is a deliberate road waypoint before Kranjska Gora. Towns are transit or overnight stops, not additional ski areas. Allow travel days and check tolls, rental terms and current access.
An extended Switzerland–France–Italy–Austria–Germany–Slovenia journey with some countries revisited. Milan, Chur, Innsbruck, Bolzano and Villach are road or overnight bases that break up transfers. This is a large multi-week holiday, not a daily resort checklist. Review the Mont Blanc Tunnel and all calculated road legs; no summer high-pass crossing is required as a destination.
A XIONIA summer itinerary across three countries, with overnight bases in the valleys. Great and Little St Bernard and Iseran are deliberate pass stops, so a tunnel bypass does not complete the same itinerary. Check opening dates, weather and vehicle restrictions before departure. This is not a winter ski transfer.
A XIONIA eastbound summer pass journey through the Swiss Alps, Valtellina, South Tirol and Ötztal. Spend extra nights around the Engadin and Bormio. High-pass opening, tolls and temporary restrictions must be checked; a successful route calculation is not confirmation that the roads are open today.
Stops are indicative places and road approaches, not verified parking entrances. Check the final access road, winter opening and forecast. The routing service does not certify seasonal access. Prices exclude lift passes, accommodation, tolls and border delays.
The Grand Tour is the official Swiss touring route; our planner uses editable selected stops. Switzerland Tourism recommends April–October for the general tour, but this version crosses high passes and depends on their actual opening. Switzerland Tourism
