Canadian ski resorts: villages, towns and mountain stays
A Canadian ski holiday may centre on a resort village or use a separate town as a base. Whistler, the Banff and Lake Louise area, British Columbia mountain towns and Tremblant each create a different daily routine. Leave time for the place you are staying as well as the mountain.
In Whistler, your choice of base affects everyday transfers and time out after skiing. Check the exact accommodation location and the practical starting lift. For a group following different plans, arrange a straightforward meeting point down in the base area.
Distinguish the Lake Louise ski area, village and lakeshore when arranging accommodation and transfers. Sharing a name does not place all three stops next to each other. A lakeshore visit needs its own time and access check.
Banff gives the trip a life after returning from Sunshine, but staying in town means a transfer to the ski area. Compare transport arrangements with the time you want to be on the mountain, particularly if you have booked a lesson.
In Revelstoke, staying in town and staying at the ski base create different rhythms for the trip. Town gives space for life after skiing, while a base stay changes the morning journey. Compare those routes alongside the accommodation and leave room for winter weather.
Sun Peaks is organised around the village and the mountains surrounding it. For a group with mixed skiing abilities, accommodation near the meeting point can matter more than a broad “next to the slopes” promise. Leave time for a walk through the village after returning.
In Fernie, the town and Fernie Alpine Resort are separate accommodation and itinerary points. Decide whether the priority is morning access to the pistes or time in town after skiing. Account for the daily transfer before comparing room prices alone.
Kicking Horse combines with the Golden area in British Columbia. Mountain-base accommodation and a stay in town do not offer the same daily access. For a trip including days away from skiing, consider lodging, transfers and the time you want to spend in Golden together.
At Tremblant, the pedestrian resort base and other settlements in the area offer different stay experiences. Check the exact address and its connection with the lifts. If you want the afternoon to continue on foot, make that part of your accommodation choice.
